Time really flies, just 4 years ago, I wrote in one newsletter (#13) – What’s your favorite moment of the World Cup 2002 ?

And now for the same question, what’s your favorite moment, so far, of the World Cup 2006 ?

To me, it was not the magical performance of Zidane or how those magnificent goalkeepers saved all the deadly penalty shorts … Surprisingly (at least to me), it was whenever the Coca-Cola ad playing on TV … the background music of this TV ad simply turned whatever mood I was in, to a joyful mood. Being a classical music idiot, I searched for the melody in Internet and finally found it in the www.wikipedia.com – ahhhh … it is Johann Pachelbel’s melody of “Canon in D major”. I love the melody and of course, I love the Internet. It once again solves my problem.

Can your Internet work solve other people’s problem ? Do you know you can make a difference today and everyday ?

What will you do today to make a difference ?

That’s one of the mottos of my favorite burger shop “Triple O’s”. I love their food and corporate mottos, and every time I visit their stores I asked myself the same question many times. When people are so adapted to standard offerings from the Big M, you have to appreciate the effort Triple O’s put into their ingredient, food and services. In fact, the #1 motto of this Canadian burger shop is – If you’re not proud of it, don’t serve it.

Are you proud of what you’re delivering ? Can you further improve / enhance it before you pass to the internal users, or roll out to the mass ?

We can of course buy a lot of PCs, servers and software but it will all probably add up to be just an ordinary IT system … not necessarily a successful IT system. But let’s define what is a successful IT system – that is, an IT system that can deliver business value. The worst case scenario to us is we can spend all our time in doing something, fixing something, chasing something but not delivering business value. Therefore, we have to think hard for everything we do … how we can add value to ourselves, to our businesses.

April 1st is a very special day. Since several hundred years ago, Europeans started to send jokes and hoaxes to their neighbor and friends today. 30 years ago, Apple set up their company to sell a thing called “computer”. Three years ago today, we were in a SARS chaos and one superstar left us. And today, Sony starts to build digital single-lens-reflex camera as Konica-Minolta left the market yesterday.

Hmmmm … really, not many of the above is still relevant to what we are doing today.
