Beautiful Poems

In movies “Dead Poets Society”, and “Four Weddings and One Funeral ” there are two poems I liked very much. And of course, they are very well known ones as well …

Just an excerpt …

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever; I was wrong.

Simple, beautiful but emotional …

Carpe diem – Seize the Day

There are not many movies I can watch many many times … and still want to watch it again. One is the Dead Poets Society (one of the many others is the Groundhog Day) …

The Cable TV just aired the Dead Poets Society tonight again and it was sooooo touching and moving … it simply was one of the most influential films I had ever watched.

If you haven’t seen it, you probably should. It is uplifting and gloriously beautiful.

World Cup 2006

What is your favorite moment of the World Cup 2006 ?

To me, it was not the magical performance of Zidane or how those magnificent goalkeepers saved all the deadly penalty shorts …Surprisingly (at least to me), it was whenever the Coca-Cola ad playing on TV … the background music of this TV ad simply turned whatever mood I was in, to a joyful mood.

Being a classical music idiot, I searched for the melody in Internet and finally found it in the www.wikipedia.com – ahhhh … it is Johann Pachelbel’s melody of “Canon in D major”. I love the melody and of course, I love the Internet. It once again solves my problem.

Yet Another Movie …

I don’t know why this blog now almost turns to my own TV / DVD log, but I can’t help it. I mean I would not want to bore you with some sick IT stories (oh, IT is my profession). But there was another lesson learnt when I was watching the rerun of “Four Weddings and a Funeral” … so …

First of all, it is a very good movie. Great story, funny lines and supporting casts. And of course, Hugh Grant played very well too. What taught me a lot was the recitation of a W.H. Auden poem at the funeral … it is simply “powerful”. I immediately googled it and here is it …

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Oh, so sad …
