New York – Central Park

There are many sculptures inside and around the Central Park. I particularly like the “Sherman Monument” in the Grand Army Plaza (i.e. outside the entrance of the park). The monument was modeled after one of the best known American General William Sherman.

But somehow, what I like most is the “figure of peace” modeled in front of the General Sherman. Seems to me she’s outcrying “Peace !!”

New York – The Grand Central Station

I am a fan of the movie “The Untouchables” and the shootout scene in the Union Station simply has to be seen to be believed. So, it is a must go … but since I didn’t spent much time in Chicago in previous visits, so instead, I went to New York’s Grand Central Station šŸ˜Ž

But what I found interesting was an exhibition in the station the day I visited. It was about advertising and women’s economic power … of course, the famous “Rosie the Riveter” poster was shown. Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon of the United States, representing the six million women who worked in the manufacturing plants which produced material during World War II while the men (who traditionally performed this work) were off fighting the war. This “character” is now considered a feminist icon in the US. “We Can Do It !!”

New York – The New York Public Library

Other than museums and monuments, I love to visit libraries in my trips. It is a very good way to see how the people in the city, country treasure history, culture and knowledge, just by visiting their central library. If you visit our central library in town, you probably know what I mean … how “uncivilized” we are …

Anyway, the photo was taken outside the New York Public Library and the poster was really eye-catching … “We Can’t Hear You !! Make Noise for the Library” …
